Panelists
Michael J.B. Carter
Director, Energy Group, SNL Financial
Michael Carter has more than 25 years experience in the energy, mining and utilities industries, analyzing assets, companies and industry issues. Michael is the head of SNL Energy, a Division of SNL Financial and is responsible for all energy news, research, databases, commodities and advisory products and services.
Michael joined SNL in 2009 from Duff & Phelps LLC, where he was Director of Energy Advisory and Consulting. Prior to this, he was the Senior Director of Product & Business Development with Platts, a Division of The McGraw-Hill Companies. Michael has degrees in Geology and Geosciences from The Australian National University and the Canberra College of TAFE and a M.Sc. in Economic Geology from the Colorado School of Mines.
Steve Piper
Associate Director, Power Markets, SNL Financial
Steve Piper brings more than 18 years experience in power market analysis including generating asset valuation, environmental analysis, and electric industry restructuring. The integrated and increasingly globalized nature of commodities affecting power markets has also required Steve to acquire extensive knowledge of developments in natural gas, coal and upstream oil industries.
Prior to joining SNL, Steve served as Managing Director for Platts’ subscription-based information services for energy forecasting and launched products for the energy trading and risk management segment. Steve has served as the principal author of written reports, articles for publication and oral presentations for clients, conferences and webinars. He has a BA (History) from Grinnell College and a Masters of Public Management degree from the University of Maryland – College Park.
Curt Ophaug-Johansen
Senior Product Manager, SNL Financial
Curt Ophuag-Johansen has over 17 years experience in the energy information industry developing and managing products for the coal, natural gas and power markets. As the Senior Product Manager at SNL Energy he is responsible for the power market fundamental database products.
Curt joined SNL in 2009 from Platts, a division of the McGraw-Hill companies, where he was Senior Product Manager of the Power Database Products. Het has a degree in Accounting from the University of Colorado and a Masters in Strategic Marketing from the University of Denver.
