Inside Bank Accounting Practices

Inside Bank Accounting Practices is an introductory course, consisting of lectures and case studies, that provides you with both the theoretical background and real-world context you need. From balance sheet management techniques to derivatives and hedging, you'll come to understand how banks account for and report their more complex operating results.

What you'll be able to do:

  • Identify questions in bank accounting and analysis that arise from management discretion in reporting and disclosure
  • Understand amortized cost accounting vs. fair value accounting and how it affects a bank's exposure
  • Know the accounting rules and disclosures associated with the reporting of a bank's credit risks
  • Analyze the fair value accounting and disclosures for financial instruments, investment securities, mortgages and other servicing rights
  • Understand the accounting for derivatives and hedging, and how banks use derivatives to mitigate risk
  • Identify the major differences between U.S. GAAP and IFRS, specifically related to banks

Inside Bank Accounting presumes familiarity with basic accounting and finance concepts, as well as a working knowledge of bank financial statements. Pre-program reading will be assigned prior to the seminar to ensure an interactive and successful learning experience.
