Overview

There was a time when 3D was considered a laughable gimmick that conjured up thoughts of people wearing cardboard specs with red and blue cellophane lenses. But a new age of 3D was ushered in last year thanks to digital projection, new technologies and the groundbreaking film "Avatar," which has grossed nearly $2.60 billion worldwide and is now the highest grossing film of all time.

The huge $116.1 million opening weekend in for "Alice in Wonderland" indicated a continuing public appetite for 3D content. Studios, exhibitors, consumer electronics manufacturers and many others are eager to deliver more 3D. More and more theaters are being outfitted with 3D technology and 3D televisions have hit the retail market.

Clearly consumers are willing to pay for a 3D experience in theaters, but will that translate to demand for an in-home 3D entertainment system? Is it wise to release high-end consumer electronics in the current economic climate?

Listen in as a panel of subject matter experts take a 90-minute look at the 3D market and its future.
