With over 160 executives in attendance, the 2009 SNL Bank M&A Symposium brought together the bank sector’s top decision makers, deal makers and industry executives to examine the current landscape and what to expect in the next 12 months. The program provided a great platform for fruitful discussion, as well as excellent networking opportunities.

Setting the stage for the Symposium discussions, H. Rodgin Cohen, Chairman of Sullivan & Cromwell, opened the program with a keynote address, followed by seven panels featuring a diverse group of leaders in the space

While there was acknowledgement that the market for traditional bank M&A is extremely slow and may continue to be in upcoming months, there are opportunities for some institutions to take advantage of this “once in a lifetime” opportunity by utilizing creative deal structures.

The day-and-a-half Symposium covered all the essentials topics impacting bank M&A today, including the challenges of the current environment, FDIC-assisted deals and other government initiatives, the current hurdles and opportunities for private equity, due diligence considerations and lessons learned from past transactions. See the program agenda here.

The program received extensive press coverage.
